Dental implants are replacement ‘teeth’ that fill the gaps left by missing teeth. But what is the dental implant procedure? How long does it take? And how much does it cost? We answer all your burning questions about the dental implant procedure here.

What Is The Dental Implants Procedure?

Here is our step-by-step guide to the entire procedure for dental implants here at Ollie & Darsh:

Step 1 – Consultation And Examination

The first step of your dental implant procedure is your free initial consultation. This is the first stage of any treatment we carry out here at Ollie & Darsh. It is an opportunity to discuss the dental implant process in detail and answer any questions you might have. Then, if you are happy to proceed, we will give your teeth and gums a thorough examination, including scans, before sharing our findings and developing your individual treatment plan.

Step 2 – Placing Your Dental Implant(s)

Now that we have your full blessing and have had the chance to formulate your bespoke treatment plan, the next stage of the dental implant procedure is surgery. Our experienced clinical team will administer a local anaesthetic to numb your mouth and jaw before placing the implant(s) into your jawbone. Rest assured that the surgical element of the procedure for dental implants is generally straightforward and pain-free.

Step 3 – Wait For The Implant To Integrate

The next step of the dental implant process is perhaps the most important and often the most time-consuming. This is when we simply have to wait for the titanium implant to fuse with the bone beneath your gums. A robust and secure bond is vital to ensure your implant lasts. So this part of the dental implant procedure takes as long as it needs. Everyone is different, but a successful integration is usually achieved after 2-3 months.

Step 4 – Time To Build Your New ‘Tooth’

Following the successful osseointegration of the implant (the technical name given to the fusing process), the next stage of the dental implant procedure is the ‘restoration’ process. This is when we begin to ‘build’ your new tooth or teeth. First, a connecting post, called an ‘abutment’, is screwed into the implant. Once the abutment is in place, we can attach your handmade, colour-matched porcelain crown. And voila

Step 5 – Aftercare To Support The Healing Process

With your brand-new ‘tooth’ (or ‘teeth’!) in place, you will no doubt be eager to show them off. But, although your dental implant procedure is technically complete by this stage, the dental implant process is not yet finished from our perspective. Because our clinicians will want to keep a close eye on the health of your implant and surrounding gums as part of routine follow-up aftercare appointments to ensure everything is a success.

How Long Is The Dental Implant Procedure?

You can expect an individual dental implant to take roughly 1-2 hours to install. Depending on the number of implants you need, you might require several visits to complete the surgical element of your dental implant procedure. When you factor in the several months it can take for the implant to bond with your jawbone, the entire dental implant process will likely take 3-9 months. But the results are definitely worth the wait!

Is The Dental Implant Procedure Painful?

The surgical part of the dental implant process is typically a pain-free experience because it is performed under local anaesthetic. However, after your treatment, you might experience a small amount of pain as your gums and jaw begin healing. But rest assured that any discomfort should only last a few days. The Ollie & Darsh team will provide a comprehensive aftercare programme to ensure a swift, safe and seamless recovery.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

A dental implant procedure here at Ollie & Darsh starts from £2,400 per implant.
